Yeah, I agree, what was the point? To tell us what we already know about the dangers of leaving your kids to become victims of pedophilia?
There was no point to this film at all. It wasn't even a study of human nature; it was quite literally 'girl gets kidnapped by pedophile; parents suffer for years not knowing her fate; parents find out she's alive; cops kill said pedophile and child is reunited with parents as though nothing has ever happened...and ultimately lises her chance to compete in the Olympics.
If anybody wants to see a far superior film about this subject matter; check out "I know my first name is Stephen". It's a far better study of the effects of such an abduction on the lives of everyone involved, and actually explores the complexity of humanity around issues like this.
share"I know my first name is Stephen" is based on a true story and sadly the real Stephen died as a young adult. In regards to this movie it was just horrific and pointless but Ryan Reynolds did a good job. He was the only person in that movie that I found relatable.
