Not to sound like a valley girl, but TV movie musicals are so mid-2000s. Why is Disney still going down this route?

What are you talking about the Camp Rock movies were dates in 2008 and 2010 and Lemonade mouth was in 2011, they never went away in the first place.

Many of the movies this one spoofs were musicals themselves.
It seems like this is more of a spoof than a straight musical. If the audience will accept a musical, then it's easier to sell them on the idea of a spoof.
