They aren't even trying anymore.

With titles like this one and High School Musical, creativity is dead, at least when it comes to naming movies for teens.

I agree. When I heard the title, I was like you don't even have to try and guess what the movies about. Really lame.

reply

Why should you have to guess what the movie is about? They want viewers to know what it's about.

It's not that you should have to guess, but you have to admit some of Disnye's recent titles have been weak.
They're not as engaging as some of the older DCOMs like: The Thirteenth Year, The Other Me, Wish Upon a Star, Underwraps, You Lucky Dog etc.

I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.

How are You Lucky Dog or Wish Upon a Star engaging titles?

They pull you in.

"You Lucky Dog? What lucky dog? Huh?"
:P

K, maybe those two aren't the best examples, but you got my original point.

I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.

seriously... you know it's disney channel right, the core audience is not trying to guess what the movie is about. Disney channel has had a history of just naming the show or movie, what it is about. (Lizzie Maguire, High School musical, Phineas and Ferb, Jessie, Cheetah girls, That's so Raven, etc, short and to the point)

reply

Do you know that most of the shows you named don't actually tell you ANYTHING about the show based on the title?

"Teen Beach Movie" tells you exactly what the movie is about.

Jessie, Phineas and Ferb, That's So Raven, etc tell you nothing about the show.

Under the Disney formula, Phineas and Ferb would have to be named "Two Brothers Create Fantastical Adventures During the Summer."

Jessie would be "Girl is Nanny for Kids in NYC and Madness Ensues."

See the difference?

reply

I disagree. It parodies teen beach movies, so the title is perfect.

reply

If that were the case, it would be:
A. Not from Disney,
B. Probably rated R, and
C. Called "Not Another Teen Beach Movie"

reply

This movie pays homage to some of the old sixties films. It is actually a lot like the more mature Pleasantville for a younger audience. But to your points.
A. Old Disney used to do Satire and tounge in cheek really well.
B. Parodies and satires do not need to be rated R. Pleasantville was PG 13 and their have been plenty of satire-esque films of the G rated variety.
C. Not Another Teen Movie did not invent the parody or the satire. It actually doesn't even fall under that category it is actually a spoof similar but a different genre generally less intelligent. Spoof = Not Another Teen Movie/Scary Movie (R), parody = Galaxy Quest/Gremlins (both PG Galaxy Quest was aimed at kids) satire = Scream (PG 13)

Its something you'll get used to a mental mind *beep* can be nice!

Stop hating! This movie is based on all of those beach movies that came out in the 1960s

I noticed that it was mocking the musical genre as well as 60s beach genre. Huge parodies of Hairspray, Grease, West Side Story, and even a surprising nod to Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. It was a parody, not supposed to be a serious endeavor.

reply

THEY were originally gonna name it "Teen Beach Musical"
