That main girl's american accent sucked..

Her australian accent kept coming in and out of the whole movie.

I noticed that as well. *Very* bad casting, IMO. Plus she and Ross had no chemistry together. At all.

You got what you wanted but you lost what you had.

reply

Who do you think they should have cast instead?

reply

Well, you're right in one way, the no-kissing. That made at least one Amazon.com reviewer point out that maybe it was too clean. And the now-famous surf board ad with Ross and Maia on the board has them smiling at US, but NOT at each other. I satill liked the actors themselves,though..

Yeah that was really bothering me.

I noticed that to. It's weird because on The Fosters, her American Accent is better. Maybe, for this movie, they should have just allowed her to keep the Australian accent.

However, I still really liked her in the movie. I thought she was the best thing about the movie IMO.

reply

I agree, they should have let her keep her accent. It would have been like Grease :)

reply

I think on The Fosters though that was filmed after this movie I think she was just starting to be in american movies and television here because this was filmed over a year and a half ago.

reply

Meaning she got more training at doing accents which is why its better there.

reply

The in-and-out accent doesn't bother me as much as her "glass half-empty" character. Only forty minutes into the "soon-to-be-classic" musical but she keeps bringing things down. She's such a drag!

reply

They probably wanted to avoid that Grease analogy, especially since her family was American as can be. However, no character's accent on DC sound like it should. Unless they play someone from California and the actor also is. And even then its iffy. For instance Peyton List grew up in NYC, I think Brooklyn, and she hardly sounds like a Brooklyn native. That does not mean she can't act, she actually does a decent Tony impersonation. I doubt DC cares, they have to choose between ability and appearance when casting. I don't see many problems with the casting.

reply

Just because Peyton is from Brooklyn, doesn't mean she has to sound like Tony... Which is an exaggerated Italian accent to begin with. It has to do with how she was raised and the kind of environment she was in more than where she is from.

Besides, that's why they are actors. They are supposed to become different people to the point of changing everything about themselves (appearance, speech) if the role requires.

P.S. -- I agree, Maia's accent slipped in and out from time to time, but it wasn't as bad as other actors playing somebody from another country I've seen.

reply

Peyton List was born in Florida, though. She's cute in Fox's "Wimpy Kid: Dog Dayd".

reply

She's adorable. But needs to take acting lessons. Not bad for just doing what she only knows. Give her time. Though I think she will be worrying about her weight Most of her life. Hope not.

reply

I agree even now when she's on the Fosters, it comes out at times especially during the emotional scenes.
