Speaking of characters, let me give you one of the most requested questions: How are Hiccup and Astrid doing, and what will we see from those two?

Art: Oh, yeah. Hiccup and Astrid are definitely moving forward. In each season, they will get a little closer and a little closer to where they are at the beginning of the second movie, which is basically a full-fledged relationship.

Doug: We will not disappoint in terms of the Astrid-Hiccup relationship. It just may take a few more seasons to get us there. But I promise you.

Art: You will see the beginnings of it. There are elements and Easter eggs and fun stuff always between those two. Whether it's one of them being in danger and how the other one feels about that, or the kids noticing them getting a little closer. The dragons, and how they react to it.

Doug: And how the other kids react to it is great. I mean, we get to be the ones who show them finding out, let's just put it that way.

If the other kids find out about their relationship, doesn't that mean they kept their relationship a secret? I hope so!

I´m glad they make the build up to the relationship so slow. It fits great to the characters, I mean, we know they are not like Snotlauth or the twins

I don't mind build up but this is a little too slooooooooooooow for my taste. There better hopefully be some display of romantic feelings between them next season 💏 or else everything is going to be really rushed and sloppy in the last season.

We had already a hint of romantic feelings in the first half of the 3rd season when Heather asks Astrid if she and Hiccup are "a thing" now and Astrid blushess

I don't count that as Hiccstrid development. To be truthful with you, not my favorite episode(s). I've friends who've stopped watching 'cause of those episodes. It was a very bad and unnecessary move from the writers. They've lost people's trust in them bc of it.

Beside it's more important for Hiccup to show romantic feelings for Astrid. Astrid kissed him so many times, Hiccup needs to show his attraction to Astrid (and only Astrid.) He needs to treat her like she is special to him, treat her in a way he treats nobody else. They only time Hiccup has shown to care for Astrid is when she is in distress otherwise he ignored her existence. That's not okay. He treated her awfully in season one and so many fans hated him for it. He needs to be a better friend to her and they need to have a conversation that is not about sharing concerns over another person. They grew up together, surely there must be something for them to talk about. It's important to show them being friends, instead of just telling us they are. They need to show us strong bonding moments. The Astrid lying to Hiccup thing wasn't treated as a BFD when it should've been. They should've shown them resolving the issue and making up, but they didn't. It made their relationship feel like an afterthought.

They need to dedicate actual time to the development, what they are doing right now isn't working. The bond between Hiccstrid doesn't feel strong and secluded. They need to prioritize this relationship next season or else Hiccstrid on RTTE will end up as cheap shadow of their critically acclaimed movie relationship.
