I'm guessing that Johnny kid wasn't the smartest tool in the shed?

It's one thing trying to save your friends, but the way you try to save them is a whole other thing. Why and i emphasize WHY when he reached shore he didn't contact the authorities to come to the lake and save their butts but decided it would be a good idea () to get in the lake with another boat?

I know this isn't supposed to be the smartest movie out there, but it really got me dumbfounded.

The creature seems to be much more than just a big fish.
1) The gate is locked, with limited access.
2) Johnny has a pendant that provides safety.
3) The old man converses with him, mentioning the boy's responsibilities in protecting this secret and warning him not to do this.

However, Johnny is trying to fit in, thinking that he could now that school was over. Basically, he betrays what he is supposed to protect. Someone mentions that s/he (I don't recall the character) has heard tales but never believed it.

This was a "lake monster", perhaps connected to Native American legendry. To me, Johnny's appearance was supposed to suggest that ancestry.

I think Johnny thought they would be safe if they didn't enter the water~which, of course, they rushed to do. He broke the rules, and they paid for it. The old man ensured that no one would leave to carry stories. All he had to do is replace the lock. There would be no trace~as long as he gets rid of the film.

Whew! This could've been one of those awful "found film" movies={ UCK!

THe pendant does what?

It protects him from the fish-creature. He tried to give it to one of the girls but had it refused. He later is safe enough to swim to shore, and the fish ignores even his dead body. She retrieves the pendant and swims to shore unscathed.

That points to the fish being some sort of ancient guardian of the lake~at least to me it seems to be that.

Thaks I missed that. I was wondering why the overboarders kept turning up alive.

Just think, if he had kept the pendant, even when injured, perhaps he would have survived. Then, they might have had a sequel because he was supposed to be the son of the man who controlled the town. If he survived, he might have made his way back home and revealed the truth. Or, he could have lied and said that the old man killed them. Hmmm...

But, he did scream and sound as if he was being devoured.

He did keep the pendant on. The rope strangled him even while he was wearing it so how was he to survive that?

reply

The lad in the motor boat or the last man standing?

I believe the pendant only protects the wearer from attack by the lake monster, not normal means of death. The girl was the last one to wear it, she got choked out by the boy who gets shot.

The pendant/locked is what protected Johnny ?? So that why the fish didn't eat Johnny. Johnny was wearing the necklace. That explains why she survive after taking Johnny's necklace.
