Beyonce's 'feminism'

How annoying. Her whole "girl power" spiel translates into lyrics about demanding that men "step up" in the relationship, meeting a woman's requirements, as it were. Thanks B, girl. Now I know that if my man is faithful, holds me when I cry and buys me stuff I've made it in a man's world. Gosh I feel so liberated and empowered! Too bad my hair isn't as fluffy as yours , then I'd really be in charge of my fate. All the men would be falling all over themselves to hand me the spoils of their dominion.

She's a bore.

In the documentary, and often elsewhere, Beyonce positions herself as some sort of voice for women's empowerment, "liberation". We used to call that feminism, call it what you will.

Watching the documentary, I was viscerally struck by the speciousness of her whole persona, and turned off by the idea she puts forth in her lyrics, which is echoed in our culture ad nauseum, that only some sort of capitalist success can be equated with female empowerment. And not only Capitalist but thy women must somehow co-opt the capitalism used by men for eons to assert and derive their "power".

I'm tired of this ludicrous mode of thinking. Emancipation and freedom for women is found in their intellect and their ability to find respect in the society in which they help create, no matter what their financial or relationship status. In Beyonce's lyrics and world, she's empowered because she found a husband who loves her and she's confident enough in her looks and earning power so that she can show a cheating man the door. It's infantile and boring and it's what makes me not like her as an "artist", even though she sings nice enough.

Where should/do women get power from if not from capitialism?
Please explain, if you don't mind... or link me to a blog which mirrors your ideology.

Um, firstly, I object to the idea of "power" being only equated with financial largesse. This is an old way if thinking that actually not only makes no one truly powerful, but does nothing to make a society great. In Beyonce's lyrical world, in a poor economy, or if you aren't destined for the extreme fame and riches of Beyonce, or can land a man who worships you, you can't achieve real personal liberation and happiness.

I'm not talking about "power" in the douchbaggy sense of male-type dominance and consumption, a la Donald Trump and Beyonce. Liberation for both women AND men is found in the respect given to them as human beings regardless of their financial status, level of fame, or relationship status. It is found in what they DO, not in what they possess.

It's kinda sick for her to push her situation as an ideal for little girls to aspire to. It's not gonna happen for them, nor should it be something that's even good for them to aspire to, in my opinion, of course.

I'm really over the Beyonce school of female empowerment. It is false. I'm not sure if any blogs echo my feelings, maybe I should start one.

Aw, how nice. We all should be thinking about this stuff, questioning our "idols" and what they represent. I get much of what I feel to be true from my Buddhist practice. It helps me to cut through the crap!

LOL! It was getting pretty deep when she was spouting off about feminism- I hope she was wearing her wading boots

You do realize that sometimes a song is just written for the fun of the words and beat.
