shareThe novel this movie was based on is not for everyone. It did a good job representing the more disgusting and grim aspects of life as the twins strove to adapt to the cruel environment they were forced to live in. All while having a darkly humorous tone that really tied in well with the overall atmosphere. While I have not seen the film version yet, I am quite sure the most shocking parts of the book were preserved. If you didn't like it, recommending you the source material would be useless. I can't blame you for not liking "The Notebook" due to its grotesque content, but I suggest you should keep clear from this kind work; for there are novels and films that happen to be far more intense.
