I liked some of it, depending on the talking heads at any given segment.

Didn't like all the detox bs. Reduced these people to shilling yet another bad diet fad--which is hypocritical to the umpteenth degree given how smug some of these people are.

Also, most of the evidence seemed anecdotal. All of this stuff is true because it happened to the people telling you? Change nutrition with UFOs and see how far you get with this approach.

I just took it as another way for me to continue on the eating path I'm on, which is whole foods and much more plant based, though I'll still have a good steak from time to time.

I thought the comparison of cocaine to high fructose corn syrup, though sensationalist was an interesting analogy.

Overall I liked the movie, but it often lacked the hard data to back up the claims. There were a lot of talking heads referencing "several independent studies" to oppose the manufacturer-funded studies, but never actually produced any.

Example: There was one guy who mentioned how Pilots are told to avoid diet sodas due to the artificial sweetners contained within and this was told to them by the "Pilot Association" (his exact words, I just saw the movie last night and this stuck out to me). Well, as a Pilot (commercial and flight instructor, my wife is a commerical heli pilot as well), this is just plain false. No AME (aviation medical examiner) nor the FAA the ONLY body which regulates pilots have issued any kind of statement regarding this to Pilots. As for "Pilot Association"... Heh. Which one? There are many out there and they are all clubs not regulatory bodies. The only thing the FAA promotes is a healthy lifestyle in general free from drinking excessively and smoking, regular exercise, etc.

Heck, even the so-called "Aspartame Consumer Safety Network" confirms that perhaps some FAA Flight Surgeons know about it, but haven't told pilots until the FDA mandates a ban. Link is here:

However, even the above information I take with a grain of salt. They claim organizations like AOPA and ALPA have been warning pilots for a while about the dangers of aspartame, which is also false.

I'm not doubting the bad effects of aspartame, because generally anything artificial is just bad for you, but I don't like the quick and loose use of information in this manner. Unfortunately, it's par for the course in this day in age. Even FOX and CNN use information in this manner.

I knew that statement was BS. Thanks lvpilot1278 for doing my homework! And you've got to ask; if that was BS, what else was?

What I thought was confounding about the doc was the damned if you do, damned if you don't angle. Sugar's bad, don't consume sugar. OK but I like sugar in my coffee and the occasional desert so I'll use artificial sweeteners. Oh no! Don't do that, it's artificial and deadly!

So what's a guy or gal to do? Just get used to not ever eating anything even slightly sweet (or carbs) again? I'd just rather use moderation and throw in a huge chunk of exercise.

Explain to me exactly how you're supposed to find out about something without anecdotal evidence? If it's just regurgitated by someone then it's just theory. You're correlation to UFO's is a red herring here. We see pictures of UFO's and most people can see that they're fakes or at the very least, alien space craft isn't something we see every day nor can touch. However, in this movie, we see people who were 300 and 400lbs and who are now at healthy weights. It's tangible. Someone can sit and tell me all day that they were abducted by E.T. but without any evidence, it's just stories. However, someone telling me that they were fat, and backing it up with pictures or video and it's something tangible. This is extreme but take the Biggest Loser. We see these people shrink right in front of our eyes. Is it the healthiest thing for them to do? No but it works.

I thought it was really good. Some of it was sensationalized but as I have previously stated we live in a sensationalized society. People do not respond to lets read out pages from studies. That's just a fact. The point is is that our food industry is killing us. They are slowly trying to kill off natural farms and only feed us the processed foods that keep us buying more. Many of the higher ups in the FDA actually own meat and food product companies. So of course they are not doing anything about it. The fact that most of the large food companies employ over 50 scientist and psychologist should be alarming to every one. They study daily on how to make people addicted and unhealthy. They are not trying to sell you something that is healthy and that's for sure! With 2 small children I worry about this all the time. I do not want to set them down a path leading to health difficulties in the future. I just am at the point of eating a healthy diet that is affordable is an issue. I am also aware of the paid for labels of organic. Just another ploy by the food industry. It's just like where do you start? You would have to be able to grow your own plants and since I rent right now that is just not an option.

I got suckered in.

But I've educated myself enough with previous documentaries and readings to know the basics...

this was more of a refresher thing to watch.

It was enjoyable.
