About Dakota,I dont consider her attractive at all, but I dont even think her mom was pretty.Tipi Hedren was a beauty,refined and beautiful but I dont see such beauty in Melanie or DAkota.

Yeah I also think she was not the better choice but it might have been worse lol.She acts shy and innocent sometimes,that was ok,the way he looks at Christian and such,but in the book she was gorgeous and Christian was impressed by her beauty.She was different to the rest of women and for a man who takes in consideration the physical part,she had to be a godess or he would have ignored her.Maybe other actresses like Alexandra Daddario or Alexis Bledel (I go more for Daddario) would adjust more to the Ana from the book.
In the movie we clearly don't see that.She is not that special beauty from the book.And basically she dressed with modern clothes kind of teen and attended classes which made her look like younger,but she did not look a 22 year old at all.I would say 26...
Christian Grey also was extremely handsome in the book,thicker hair,taller,better body and beautiful face,and with Jamie I did not get that impression.I thought he was attractive,but not a greek god lol In fact when he wears the beard,for me he loses all.I see him like a random guy.

I can totally believe it in real life. You say "homely looking", as if a woman must be unusually good looking externally for a rich guy to want her.
Good looking women would throw themselves at a guy like that. They would drool at the possibility of getting him. If an average guy were to say to a pretty woman the types of things he says when they first meet then they (pretty women and most women) would likely call him a pervert. A man that has had plenty of that would see through it and could easily become bored by it.
I agree however that the movie does not make the attraction convincing, just as I was not convinced by Pretty Woman.
I don't see Dakota Johnson as a beauty, but she isn't a plain jane, either. She fits the part. Now if the movie starred Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, Charlize Theron, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lawrence, or even Scarlett Johansson, it would have been a bigger hit. It would be like Titanic starring Leo and one of those gals i mentioned above, rather than Kate Winslet. The bigger, more attractive star power, the more money the movie would gross.
She is definitely nobody anyone would look twice at, she's the kind of girl a guy would only pay attention to after a few meetings and long conversations. But to be fair in this movie Christian is almost as unattractive as she is.
