I stopped playing almost immediately

after Vaas' lackluster battle and death. The game already had a fairly weak story, but the game play was fun and one of my favorite past times was going to Vaas' men's hideouts and overthrowing them. But when his death was nothing more than a movie in which I occasionally got to press a button, I lost major interest.

I'm barely into the whole looking for Hoyt's men part and it just doesn't interest me that much.

Ironically, I read an article about Far Cry 4 and what it could to better than 3 not that long ago and the handling of Vaas' character and Transition to Hoyt is apparently one of the biggest criticisms.

The fights with Buck and Vaas were kind of disappointing because of them being quick time events, and I was just thinking how things would have gone down if you weren't forced into certain unavoidable scenarios and you could have a chance to fight without the zany hallucinations and the limited control. For example, would Buck have realistically stood a chance with an ornate knife when I'm armed with a machine gun that I can whip out at any time? He didn't take my stuff from me when I went down into the basement so I should have been able to turn around and blast him away when he said I couldn't leave.

I didnt mind the fights with Buck and Vaas, though they could have been better done. Vaas was pretty spectacular with all the hallucinations and you having to fight through them to get to him, but after that it was a tad anticlimatic. Plus, I wish Vaas had been Jason's final target rather than Hoyt (as Vaas was the best villain, and actually had the most pivotal role in making Jason who he turned out to be).

By far the biggest fun in the game is engaging the bad guy outposts--the main story progression is quite bad, only a few decent missions.

If you play on PC, then grab a mod or two to skip the story and over-long cut scenes, plus repopulate the outposts after you capture them all. Then you can have a lot of fun setting different goals for ways to whack the bad guys, without the main stuff getting in the way of enjoyment.
