Similar but better film.
Had to fast forward my way through this If you want to watch something similar but very much better, try watching Local Hero, a great great movies with similar theme, setting.

IMHO, there are similarities, but I think it's more an evocation. This was a really good movie in its own right. But I would agree that if you're a big fan of Local Hero (I've seen it probably five or six times), you have to short of shake it off so you don't have it as some kind of evaluative structure hanging there in the background.
