I really hope this movie is not realistic.

This seriously has to be one of the saddest (and best) Gay films I have ever seen. I really hope this not reality cause that would be *beep* horrible to live in the situation that Nimr was in.

I was thinking the same thing. Nimr was threated by both sides (his family ousting him for his homosexuality and the Israel police going after him for what his brother was doing) and all he had was Roy. I do wish the film would have showed us what happened to Roy. That is, if he ever made it to France.

This is REALLY one of the best and saddest movies I've ever watched. And even though the characters are fictional, their stories are based in real life stories. Seriously, this movie needs a sequel. I've been rewatching it for a long time!

Couldn't agree more on the sequel.

Possibly set a couple of years later, with Roy still in prison, but his father (with his powerful connections) manages to finally get Roy released. Then it's on after that with Roy trying to track down Nimr, who managed to get asylum in England and continuing his studies while waiting on Roy to scoop him up and live happily ever after.

Long shot, but it would be great for a conclusion to the story.

I'm certain this one will be getting a re-watch. If this really is what the situation is like over there, it makes me grateful to live in a much more tolerant country (Australia).

The movie doesn't need a sequel. It ended on a powerful note.

Also, Roy and Nimr's situation is far from the worst that's happening over there, that's how bad it really is. The ending spoke loudly of how bad the human rights are over there, and how much despair is in the atmosphere.

Actually, if you search for interviews with Michael Mayer, you'll find that it is not based on one true story, but the portrayed situation is very real indeed.
The director came up with the idea for this film after speaking to a friend involved in a gay movement in Palestina/Israel. The fictional story of the film is based on a lot of true stories. Some of the people working (backstage) on the film have been in similar situations themself.
