Interesting segment that didn't belong in the movie SPOILER

SPOILER

Towards the end of the movie there is a long, unrelated segment, which, objectively, should not have been in the movie, but I found it very interesting from a historical and human viewpoint.

The movie cuts away to an indoor scene in Berlin where a German surrender delegation of high-ranking military officers is escorted down a marble floored hallway to a large auditorium room filled with mostly Soviet high ranking military officers, lower-ranking military aides, lots of photographers and a few high-ranking American and British military officer delegates. The German delegation is there to sign the surrender papers demanded by the Soviets. After the ceremony, the three highest-ranking German delegates are served a good quality roast beef meal in a closed dining room. The three, highly depressed men have a empty, meaningless conversation about nothing. The high point comes when a Soviet military officer, accompanied by a Soviet enlisted man bearing a dessert tray enters. The Soviet officer serves the three German officers dessert, a parfait of strawberries and ice cream or cream.

Just saw this film today and like you I probably would of cut this whole scene. I know this film worked at a certain level, but to me this scene sort of threw off the flow of the film for a little bit. I have to think maybe the film maker intended something with this me as a viewer did not pick up. Anyways if it had to be in there I would of had it much shorter. Not a bad scene to me, but really not needed to me in this film at least.

Every war has a million stories all told from a unique perspective and the victors get to write history. Undocumented history eventually gets 'Telephone Gamed" until it becomes unrecognizable. The White Tiger is a Moby Dick story told by someone who may or may not have been there like the German SS officer at the beginning.

The movie is not a war movie. It is a ghost story. The last thirty minutes wildly goes into the POV of a story told by the son of a son of a soldier that claimed to be there. The first scene of an incredibly detailed movie was of a battle that never existed along with the last scene with 'Hitler' explaining war history being written by the victors is a dead give away.

The White Tiger was a real tank during the war. A prototype Porsche design that saw combat near the end of the war.
"Tiger Fever" was a real problem during the war since every german vehicle seen or destroyed was claimed to be a Tiger by terrified allied soldiers. Helped along by the germans adding skirts and turret shields to all their tanks that gave them a boxy look.

The final message is that war always happen and no matter what we do it will keep on happening because people are people.
"It is not over until I finish it off".
"It will wait and crawl out. Tomorrow, 10 years, 20 years, 50 years or maybe 100 but it will come back".

What the heck does this have to do with the very unnecessary ... and most misleading ... dinning scene with fresh strawberries?

Which I also think should have been cut from the film.
