Films like this are screwing up young people.

There's more to life than getting in a relationship. Get an education!

reply

Second that. Be somebody, then be with somebody.

So in a practical sense, what do you recommend? That all people who are 'nobodies' get a divorce first thing in the morning?

'Nobodies' are no less entitled to happiness than those who consider themselves 'somebody'.

reply

Young people their age, getting divorced???

I agree. She went in a stolen car with two guys she didn't know and he put his hand on her lap? And then she lost her virginity to him when she didn't even know him, he was disrespectful to her father and then she sacrificed her career for him.
And young girls are watching this like "That's gonna be me someday"…

I disagree...while it's good to have a career its important to have a relationship with someone you can share your life with...I like the movie and the ideals it preaches, so many people lose sight of passionate love in a relationship and they get bogged down by the practicalness of life that they lose sight. so in short I believe in love.

I understand what you're saying. And believe me, there isn't a moment in my life I would abandon love. But as the previous poster also said; do not lose the sight of your life's goal for a relationship. If you can work both at the same time, great. If not then your other half should be sensible enough to make you achieve that first even if it separates you two. In this film, it turned out to be a bit different.

I'll bet big money you moralizers are Republicans! Tea Party, maybe? Know the definition of a conservative? It's a person with the awful fear that someone, somewhere, somehow, might be having a good time.

I agree with the OP on this and I am the complete opposite of a Republican or Tea Party member. I honestly don't see how making a smart choice for your future relates to moralizing but anyway....

Jade worked hard and had an opportunity that some people don't always get. It's a shame to throw that all away for a guy that she didn't really know all that long. Of course, if she was able to manage both (maybe have a long distance relationship) great but if not, education and establishing yourself in your career should be the priority. I'm not saying it would be easy (especially for someone Jade's age) but ultimately, that is the wisest choice. And she did have a good time during the summer, but summer is over now and it's time to get back to work/school. How long should she put her education and career on hold for just to have a good time?

reply

You know, you are right. I don't know what I was thinking! Probably just a growly mood. Thanks for setting me straight.

Movies like this aren't responsible for "screwing up young people". If anything, these kinds of movies are just an accurate portrayal of how some, if not most teens are/think.
