Anyone notice the assistant character's name was Suri. Any connection to Apple's Siri? Maybe a Scifi novel that inspired both? Tried Googling it but keep getting Apple references.

Suri is a Yiddish form of Sarah. This is the name of the wife of Abraham in the Old Testament. Abraham is a patriarch, just as the Denis Lawson character is.
