Very average this year

I'll put to one side the fact that the EBU merrily allowed a rancid dictatorship to host it and use it for its own propaganda purposes this year... A fairly unmemorable selection of songs this year... I voted for France... Hungary's entry was interesting, but not particularly well-performed on the night, I thought... Iceland's entry definitely had something about it, but didn't really have enough of an immediate impact to stand out in something like Eurovision... Albania's entry was bloody awful... Jedward were Jedward... And, while I couldn't really say I liked it, Turkey's entry was rather more creative than most... Everything else was bland and immediately forgettable... For the past couple of years, the reintroduced juries did seem to take the edge off the "political" voting. But, last night, it seemed as bad as ever... Engelbert Humperdinck is a has-been, whose song was dated and unmemorable. But, it wasn't a bad song and he performed it perfectly well... While he certainly didn't deserve to win - not that the winner deserved to win! - he deserved better marks than he got... I think the "political" voting is a big problem for Eurovision. But, how do you solve it..? Anyway, at least it'll be hosted by a democracy next year.

With the split of countries heavily in the favour of ex-Eastern block/former parts of Russia, the voting has become a farce. As much as I love Eurovision, perhaps the time has come to scrap the competition—it means nothing anymore.

Don't take it so serious lads. The bloc voting is annoying but Sweden certainly didn't win because of bloc voting and it probably was the in the best one or two songs.

It's a good laugh once a year and gets big viewing figures so no need to scrap it at all.
When did it ever mean anything?

As regards the politics I had no idea that Azerbaijan was a dictatorship until last week whereas now I am aware of that fact. all thanks to eurovision!
