For beauty is found withi---um....

Can anyone name a single likable quality about this version of Beast? It's like they gave him every bad trait of every incarnation, from the creepy tendencies of the fable to the anger issues of the Disney film, but forget to give him any sort of development or redemption. And then he starts brutally murdering people over jewelry.

By the end I was almost expecting this to be a hateful deconstruction of the story, but nope. For some reason Beauty loves him, and doesn't let this inside-and-out monster bleed out when he is stabbed in self-defense like she should.

It's just bizarre.

He provides Belle with some pretty fabulous outfits ;)

Seriously though.. I kept waiting for him to turn into a likable character and it never happened. Bizarre is the right word for it.

You are right. There was no reason for her to fall in love with him, it just got creepy.
I desperate wanted them to have a real talk or any bonding, but no, the movie wanted it different.

My theory: Belle and the Beast were soulmates, and therefore always in love, because Belle was the reincarnation of the Princess.

Evidence: (Spoilers)

1. Belle asked her father to bring her a rose because roses would not grow on their land. We learn later that all of the roses at the Beast's castle came from the Princess' blood. When Belle is cut, her blood becomes a rose. No other person's blood became a rose.

2. The Princess asked her father to make her human so that she could experience love. He granted her wish. Then as the Princess was dying, she begged her father to not kill the Prince. He granted her wish. When Belle was trapped outside the forest, she asked the "God of the Forest" to allow her to return to the Beast. He granted her wish. No other person's wish/desire is granted.

Once Belle relived their life together in her dreams she knew that she loved, and had always loved the Beast/Prince.

You're right, there is not a single likable trait about the beast, but I think Belle fell for him(in his human form) in her dreams when she relive as the princess, and she just wants to help him.

Then again, there isn't a single likable trait about the prince as well, lol, from what is shown in the flashbacks, he's a liar and is very abusive to the princess, so I don't know.
