The guy who gave him the movie recommendation

I mean was it purely coincidental? Or did he know something? I mean that was such an awkward exchange that was forced by that guy -- all so he could give him a movie recommendation...that just happened to have his doppelganger in it. Hard to imagine that it was just a coincidence.

What do y'all think?

I also picked up a vibe from that teacher on another viewing of this movie. I'm undecided on a theory of what's exactly going on in this movie, although I do have one but I'm sure it's a lot of reaching and overanalyzing with a few plot holes, I'm sure, so I'll leave that for another conversation. Nevertheless, it's possible he merely subconsciously recognized him from the movie. Or, I think that guy knows about Adam's "condition" and maybe had some kind of beef or just wanted to screw with him and recommended the movie to screw with his life. So, short answer, I don't think the conversation was a coincidence.

Definitely NOT coincidence. In a way, it seems that's what spurs the final moment of Identity and of Whom he REALLY is. His reaction is just as weird as the question. I think he was failed Actor. He took a normal job, he feels inferior as a Man since and his Crisis begins. To top it off, his Wife becomes pregnant and he's now FORCED to commit. Just as he was FORCED to take a Normal Job.

Anthony is the failed actor, not Adam.

Anthony IS Adam, if you paid close enough attention to the movie.

Maybe that guy goes to the spider sex club, and sees Anthony there, and knows that Adam looks just like him, and recommends him the movie to get something started.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was having a Fight Club moment with basically everything and everyone.

I think the entire story revolves around him being his own enemy, despite having a beautiful girlfriend, he feels down in the dumps almost to the point that it seems like neglect (probably because Melanie Laurent is incredibly beautiful). He is trying to escape from one world to another, his ego takes control and he probably gets a bit rough with his girlfriend, the two argue - and there's a car accident that results in her death.

His world slowly collapses around him while he's also living in a fantasy that he's married with a baby on the way. When he's ready to finally live in that fantasy, reality (or the spider) rather comes back to haunt him and end it.

The Spider is supposed to symbolise feeling like an outsider or that a person is being tempted. I don't know, I'm still thinking about it. Great movie. Love it when I have to sit back and ponder...

One thing I've never seen pointed out, is spiders love to make nests in blueberries. His actor alterego wanted the berries on hand at all times. His mother fed the teacher blueberries during his visit, told him to eat up. What enablers😁

Blackberries were used as poison in The Good Girl too.
