Explain these 2 scenes

I get the theory about Adam is real person and Anthony as his other personality, but how can you explain his wife going to college and having the discussion about her pregnancy as she meets him for the first time?

Also, at the beginning, his mother talks about his new apartment, which one she's referring to?

reply

They are definitely two different people. Helen called Anthony while still having line-of-sight with Adam. Also, Anthony died in the car-crash while Adam was still alive. There is no (or at least should be no) question about that.

How can you say that wasn't Anthony? He answered the moment he's around the corner. Villenueve didn't play it too much in either direction. Think of the conversations with his/their Mother, she basically spells it out with conflicting situations. Villenueve used her to highlight the severity of the psychosis at that point in time.

And there is no linear narrative to say that accident happened before or after the Spider Incident. I think it happened after. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the ambiguity and I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying it's impossible to say for sure.

Yeah, her calling "Anthony" on his cell while "Adam" walks away and obviously doesn't pick up, but her husband does, is either the biggest plot hole in the entire movie, or second poster is on to something, but even the screenplay it's based on suggests they are and were the same person.

Sorry but no. "Anthony" doesn't pick up 'till "Adam" in no longer visible.

you should really watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9AWkqRwd1I

I've seen the movie today and that video explained everything to me.

Thanks for the link. It is very satisfactory in terms of detailed analysis of the movie and answered some questions that I had.

The director certainly has a thing for spider legs (considering the aliens in his latest movie Arrival.)
