Ridley thinks AvP is the worst of the worst.

But it was better than this?

reply

no. Any film with "vs" in the title is cash-in bullshit and ergo worse than any film without 'vs' in the title.

They didnt have 'vs' in your golden age did they?

reply

But Freddy vs. Jason was hella entertaining :D

reply

Except Godzilla movies.

reply

Fake news.

Still, as bad as AvP was, Covenant was worse. Just a rehash of the worst parts from the previous movies treading in a new setting. I think the ending of Prometheus overshadowed Covenant and Ridley didn't have bells or the chops to properly follow through. So instead, "Here. Another Alien movie..." Yaawn...

reply

Not worse than AvP. The first hour of Covenant was actually pure SciFi greatness imo. Then it went down hill.

reply

I thou ght the ending of covenant was fine up untill David is putting the rest of the crew back into hybernation. The Alien Action was pretty decent and reminded me of the original Alien Ressurection scripted ending.

reply

Agreed. Also, Covenant was GORGEOUS. Too bad about the rest.

reply

Really you think prometheus ending out did covenant? This is supposed to be a horror franchise not a sci-fi flick. Covenant was ridly's attempt to give fans what they wanted which is why any one thats not a troll liked the film.

reply

If hating Covenant makes me a troll, then Im the biggest troll of them all. I mean, nevermind the literally countless times Ive watched Alien, Aliens, Alien ³, Ressurection, and Prometheus. Nevermind that I can recite most dialog verbatim since Im a huge fan. But im a troll because I personally dont like the latest entry. Yeah, OK.

you got 45 posts which is typical of a sock troll account.

In addition, never did I claim that the ending to Prometheus out-do Covenant. I said overshadowed. Meaning, Prometheus (in general) was more of a philisophical science fiction film than it was a horror film. The ending, while being a proper way to close the chapter, left a lot of possibilities for a sequel. Personally, I was hoping Scott would abandon the Xenomorphs all together and instead make a pure science fiction film, which is what Prometheus was dying to be. Instead of going the philisophical route, we got more aliens with Covenant. Ergo, the possibilities that could have stemmed from the ending of Prometheus were snuffed out in favor of retreading old territory in a new setting.

Maby you should refrain from using overloaded terms like "overshadowed" then. ''. With that said I'm all for ridley scott making another stand alone sci-fi movie but he doesn't need to use the Alien Franchise as a spring board he could have just started a new series of movies and left the Alien Franchise to go its own way.

reply

No, it's not that I should refrain, since "overshadowed" is exactly what I meant as I went into detail explaining why. Besides that, I agree with the rest of your post. In addition, my post count shouldn't have anything to do with anything regarding discussing movies on a movie forum. But yeah, I actually do miss my post count from my IMDB account I opened in 04. Glad to see this place picking up where it left off...

reply

Same here. IMDB's message boards got out of hand at the end but should have stayed open.

reply

I have to put Covenant above AVp mainly due to Fassbender's performance.

reply

Covenant worse.
AvP2 worst overall.

reply

The one big problem with either of the AvP movies is that they exist at all.

I my opinion, for what it's worth, Covenant, even with it's shortcoming, stands head and shoulders above both.

reply

No, it wasn't
