Absolutely dumb!

It was just moments ago that he saw David trying to talk to the monster, which had just killed the girl.

What was he expecting to see? A pot of gold inside of the egg?

Because it happened in Alien, and this movie is kind of an Alien reboot, in ways.

At least in Alien it's more forgivable, in that some untrustworthy android isn't telling him to take a look, and there hadn't been any death and destruction prior to Kane looking into the egg. Plus he had a helmet on.

Well, I guess if you're in a universe where the Alien movies don't exist, so you have no idea what an Alien egg does, you kinda just wanna peer right in, just like Kane did in Alien.

Because this movie takes place before the original Alien film so the characters in Covenant have no idea what were inside the eggs you idiot.

People complain just to complain.
