We've seen versions of it in about six films. We've gotten a good look at the beast and face hugger over and over. We've seen a couple of queens (and there will be a couple of "queens" in Alien Covenant as well. *Snare drum*). We've seen it blasted into space. We've seen it take on Predators. We've seen it in "Batman: Dead End".
We know it has inner teeth. Acid blood.
Does anyone above the age of 12 find xenomorphs scary any more?
There's nothing like the first time you encounter something scary or exciting... first time you saw the shark in Jaws, first time you saw a naked woman, first time you saw someone get shot and die. Of course after you've seen the creature dozens of times it's no longer going to have the same shock value in the same way once you've had sex hundreds of times it might not feel as exciting as the first. Doesn't mean the creature isn't scary... just means you got used to it. It's the reason surgeons can operate on people and eat a hearty meal right after. I bet if you encountered the Alien in real life though, you'd shit your pants.

But, if I were a character in the movie, I'd freak. Basically, I'd be f*cked. Those motherf*ckers are fast, strong, and extremely difficult to kill due to the acid blood. So, game over man...game over.
By that standard it would be pointless to watch any horror movie other than an actual snuff film then. All of it is fake.

The movies can be be fun and entertaining - that's what they're for. If it's pointless to be entertained for you, then, that's just how you feel.
My point was that all science fiction fantasy shows require a suspension of disbelief... you pointed out that it's man in a suit, or nowadays CGI. I simply said if you think of any film like that, you would immediately end that suspension of disbelief therefore nothing would ever be scary other than real life footage.
shareSure, I get that part. However, since most people know what the xeno looks like, in order to make the film scary (for me, anyway), I think they should show us something different.
Not having seen the film yet, I can't say that the xeno may look different in some way or do something we haven't seen it do in other films. However, if the trailer is an indication of the film and the plot, this will play like some sort of slasher film. We've all seen slasher movies...and honestly, I don't find Jason frightening anymore. Entertaining? Sure, at times. Scary? Not to me. And I'd *like* to be scared!
I suppose the only way they can do that is to come up with a newer version that isn't solvable versus their technology. However, since it's a prequel... they are limited to what they can do with the creature.
For me, real life is always scarier than science fiction... Watching Contagion or even a Rob Zombie movie would be more creepy than Alien, even though I still enjoy those films.
Nope. Most people, i feel, are just excited to see it. That giant facehugger in prometheus and the Neomorph in Covenant, those are probably more fear inducing.

share In Alien it was downright shocking to me! The creature that jumped out of the egg, the chestburster and the full grown alein all scared me. In Aliens I thought I knew what to expect but I was still shocked and scared. In Alien 3 , I knew what was coming but I was STILL scared.
How can you NOT be scared by a creature like that? Sure if I was on a planet with those creatures I might say "Oh well I know what they look like and how they operate and attack" ...but I'd still be bleep-ing my pants!
I think if you explore the Amazon jungles for years, you would still jump out of your skin if a jaguar jumped out at you! Ther's no limit to fear of dangerous creatures. But maybe that's just me. I'm a chicken.
When I saw the 4 alien movies for the first time in the late 90's I had already seen a lot of images and clips from the movies so I knew what to expect. All those classic scenes escpecially from the first movie were spoiled to me so they weren't that scary. Sure I found the Alien movies really tense and sometimes shocking, I still do, but not really scary like I find some horror movies with supernatural beings for exsample. I guess the alien franchise has always been more scifi than horror to me.
But if I ever run into a xenomorph in real life I'd shit my pants for sure.
Could be, but I am more scared of losing $15 bucks going to see this movie and having it be as stupid as Prometheus.
There is a new trailer out that is a preview of the movie. The robot and girl escape in the Alien spaceship ... and go to the "creator's" world. Still, there is no reason to think these are creators ... the movie looks confused, but just about interesting enough to get me to take a chance. Of course any more nonsensical trailers and all bets may be off.
