Obama

I have to admit, I wouldn't have guessed either Seinfeld or Obama would have gone for this, but the episode totally worked. I'm always interested in outlets that allow the President to speak in thoughtful, complete sentences and in a non-soundbyte way.

The fact that they had such a hot car that could only do laps around the White House grounds was hysterical--along with the fact that the "coffee" portion of the interview was Mr. Coffee quality. (White House break rooms seriously need better options for the staff.)

I'm not a fan of Obama but I liked the episode. Tapping on the Window was funny........and Obama not convincing the gate guy to let them out was funny.

reply

Gotta say I really enjoyed the Obama episode. I always knew he was a bit witty but he came up with a few good zingers with Jerry. Who would have figured the White House break room was so crappy? Overall one of my favs.

Where is this stuff available for anyone not being able to watch original material?

What do you mean by "stuff available?" Do you mean a direct link to the episode? If so, that is here:

well - I did mean mp4 or a commercial DVD or something.

But I did actually see they've got the episodes on the webpage

Almost can't believe it - doesn't seem to be downlodable - but will just run a video on camera- and save - that stuff has to be watched at least 2x - and who knows when they'll take it down.

Thanks for response!

So far, none of the seasons of this show have been removed and it's an internet show only, so no distribution on DVD. It's also on the Crackle App, but pretty sure that's a streaming only option as well.

reply

ok - thanks

amazed they are not 'monetizing' the thing - Seinfeld's probably got enough - but someone has spent a lot making the show.

Anyhow will start with the camera - PDQ

reply

They're sponsored by Acura, so they probably pay well enough to keep the lights on.

When it comes to product placement, I think this show does it right.

I'm not really affiliated with either party, but if an outsider identified me they'd probably say I lean more to the right. I respect Obama and what he's done though, and thought he came across as likable here. Jerry and Obama almost seemed too relaxed though and it was a little disappointing. I wish we got more of a tour of the White House if they weren't going to drive around anywhere too.

reply

Considering episodes are pretty short , and the focus being cars, coffee and conversation with the guest, I am surpised they covered bits in the oval office and guards, cafeteria.............and understandable nothing more was shown, considering the house is supposed to have a relatively high level of security.

There is a reason why Obama won 2 elections by a landslide. People want their president to be like a cool uncle and Obama has tons of that.

But that would possibly mean Trump will win in 2016. Hillary Clinton doesn't strike me as cool , but she's the poll favorite.

You don't have to be a genius to rig elections. He doesn't deserve that much credit.

You have the dumbing-down of America right there. Forget foreign policy. Forget domestic policy. Forget the Constitution! We need a "cool uncle" and we need him now!

That is not a reason as to why anyone would win a presidential election. He won the first one b/c McCain and Palin were an absolute joke. He won the second one b/c the economy was getting better and Romney was an out of touch millionaire.

Seriously, telling people if they need money to get a no interest loan from their parents. Sorry Mitt, not everyone has rich parents.

reply

I have to say - I was pleasantly surprised. Even though he (Barack) didn't really come off as "relaxed", their banter was very enjoyable and Seinfeld's questions were excellent.

reply

Agreed that Jerry asked some great, non-traditional questions.

Case in point:

Q: "How many world leaders do you think are just completely out of their mind?"

A: "A pretty sizable percentage."

reply

Bill Simmons, who sat down with Obama recently, spoke to this aspect- that Obama cannot speak his mind off the cuff. Ppl in his shoes need others to ask them, to give them an open to speak their minds & be themselves.

It's (stupidly) news if Obama says something about guns or police shootings when he's at the WH podium elaborating. Yet if he's asked point blank in a professional Q&A, he can respond in kind, without making any news.

He can't tweet about weekly news items, all's he can do is wait for us to ask him about things.
I suppose that's for the best, he's in a role of mass representation. POTUS can never, & will never, satisfy 10s of millions on a daily basis. Think about that.

I can't believe that Jerry did not fire right back with:

"And does that include you, Mr President?"

Really? You can't believe that?

Okay.

reply

No, I really cannot believe Jerry didn't try that obvious line out on Obama.

It is literally unbelievable and incredible to any intelligent viewer that a world-class professional comedian like Jerry, did not snap right back at Obama with the sassy rejoinder:

"And are you one of the crazy world leaders, Mr. President?"

Incredible and incompetent that Jerry didn't say that punchline. Jerry could have worded it even better than me. It would have sounded edgy, and I'm sure Barack would have just laughed at that jibe. Barack would have appreciated the simple wit of that comeback if Jerry had just said it right quick, with the right timing, right then.

In fact, the whole question, ""How many world leaders do you think are just completely out of their mind?" sounds like a Jerry set-up for the punchline I envision.

Even an obvious simpleton like you would have obviously said my obvious followup joke.

Okay.

Perhaps you just answered your own question.

Why would a world class comedian go for the obvious?

reply

I like how that guy called you a simpleton b/c you didn't find his awful joke funny.

Which, ironically, is exactly what a simpleton would do.

Yeah, there's really only two outcomes for such a query and they're both pretty cringeworthy.

But hey, how're you doing? :-)

reply

No, I really cannot believe Jerry didn't try that obvious line out on Obama.

Well, for starters it's not funny. So that probably had a lot to do with him not saying it.

I bet you're single.

reply

See, we have to disagree here. As someone mentioned, saying the majority of world leaders are crazy seems a little relaxed to me. That's definitely something a President in his final year and not his first year, could do.

reply

Yeah but he was set up with Jerry's question. Obama could never swing a 'and oh by the way, about these world leaders... out to lunch half of 'em.

I love Comedian's in Coffee and looked forward to the episode with the President. I enjoyed it and the President was funny. I loved that car and the President looked cool in it.

reply

I like this show, Jerry Seinfeld, President Obama and that 1963 Corvette. It was a good episode in my opinion as well.
