Genuinely Surprised By This Film's Rating
Now, I'm not going to argue that people rated this movie too low, that they got it wrong or anything like that; everyone has their own opinions. I know that and I'm not trying to defend this movie at all.
What I am surprised by is that this movie's rating differs so much from what I would expect it to have. Usually when I watch a movie I will have a pretty good idea of what sort of rating it probably has on here. I'm not claiming to be an expert at this, but I imagine it's usually pretty obvious to people when a movie will get high praise and when it won't.
Regarding its rating, I thought this movie would be around 6 stars, maybe 6.5. The movie wasn't great, but I found it entertaining the whole way through, thought it was better than I'd generally expect from this sort of movie (especially considering a pop star is one of the leads) and didn't see anything particularly egregious. But 4.4 stars? I'd usually expect that sort of rating for a movie with some combination of low-quality production values, amateur acting, wince-inducing humour, etc. Something like a modern parody movie or the low-budget Asylum movie, i.e. Pretty much every modern low-budget ripoff movie (Snakes on a Train) or modern low-budget monster movie (Sharknado).
Again, not arguing this should be higher; just surprised people hated it as much as they appear to have.
