That is not far-fetched at ALL. I've been to that bar many times. It's actually called The Baltimore, right on the edge of Greektown in a very fun area of downtown Detroit....and there is great diversity in that bar. Certainly no lack of white people.

Is that character supposed to be somebody famous? Or somebody who was famous at one time?

I think she(Maya) was involved with the Greek crime guy (this was sorta set up in the pilot, when he said she was "always considerate" while she was creeped out by him).

Her husband also said he should have killed the old man when he was 12, so there's something at play either with him or Maya.. Maybe the crime lord took her away as a favorite at a young age or something.

I was regular at Teds (the Baltimore) for years. Always a diverse crowd.

All kinds of people work downtown. I've been in bars with only white people in them.

... and - gasp! - a few LIVE Downtown, too.

I think she inherited the bar from her father and now stands to lose it because her husband screwed up.

Bars often revolve around who goes there the most: bikers, gays, blue collar working men (an endangered species), cops, blacks, stock brokers, etc.

You drift in and don't see your own species and move on. There is a watering hole for everyone.

Hahahahaha....obviously kevhead22 is either a shut-in who gets his education from Hollywood movies or is a scared suburbanite who's mommy won't let him go to the big, mean city.

Comerica Park, Ford Field, Fox theatre, 3 casinos, Greektown....plenty of dem white folk make der way down to scary old Detroit.

I bet kevhead's momma has even made her way down there...via Woodward (wink, wink)
