honest opinion.

Is this show worth watching?

I thought it was worth it - you could do much worse watching 10 hours of the junk that is currently on the networks, cable channels, or at the theaters. With Netflix Streaming, you can also watch 2-3 episodes at a clip, relatively uninterrupted, so the story and character development has a more natural fast flow than watching one episode once a week.

Although others have pointed out some of the "out-there" suspensions of disbelief you have to stomach every once in a while ("Really, is the Detroit Police Dept anywhere possibly THIS corrupt??!"), and a weak episode or side story kind of in the middle, I thought overall it told a good story with some almost-Greek like tragic consequences of the various individuals' actions.

Stick with the story and you will be rewarded with the very intense, roller-coaster ride of unexpected twists and turns, and bravado acting of Mark Strong that hits the extremes in the next-to-last episode. What an episode!! [especially the final fade-to-black scene] Great episode!

As you watch each episode of the series, little hints of backstories are dropped here and there, which later meander and circle and interconnect the characters and their stories in a (mostly) pretty satisfying way of how all these characters are interwoven in their own multi-layered historical tapestry.

And oh yeah, some of the stark location shots of the run-down, ruined, and desolate shots of Detroit filling in for background can be visually compelling - while at the same time somewhat sadly reminding how far that once-proud (maybe too proud?) city has fallen.

I thought it was gritty and hard edged, unlike the high rated CBS crime dramas. Those CBS shows are all structured the same. Boring as hell, but people love them. Go figure. Yes, you should watch it. It was tense and unyielding. Not predictable at all. Should have had a second season.

I had a couple of issues with the initial premise, and it's quite depressing. Well acted, directed, and produced. Strong performances with interesting characters. Storyline was okay.

Not a feel good series.

I choose to believe what I was programmed to believe

Watch it, in part, as a documentary about Detroit.
