Wonderful Movie!

"Jake Squared" is really a nice movie about a director named Jake played by Elias Koteas, who decides to put on a seemingly never ending party at home and film the party in hopes of finding a film in there somewhere. But really what he is looking for is answers to his life - and the few women who were sprinkled in it, and where they fit in the whole scheme. He has a hired actor playing himself, but also other "Jakes" from different time periods show up, including the women as well. And his dead grandpa and father appear as well. Sound weird? I dug it. It is kind of like a movie in a movie kind of deal. Wonderful performances by all including Virginia Madsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh (the reason I watched this thing to begin with), Jane Seymour, Meredith Salenger, and Gia Mantegna stood out as the daughter. I am convinced there is nothing truly original anymore, but sometimes something comes along that just isn't copied as much, and that is where this film lies. It was well done, a good script, and everyone kept it interesting. It earns a solid *** out of 4 stars. I don't buy many DVDs, but this is one I would like to add to my collection.

That's a great and accurate review. Even though the movie is so complex in structure and plot, it's actually all quite simple and you captured that. Many people don't seem to be able to get passed the oddness so they can arrive at the place you did. They want what they're used to and need to be spoon fed the same old stuff and that's not what this film is about at all. Why don't you post it in the users review section so more people can see what you wrote?
