My problem with Robin (it's not her gender)

The problem I have with Carrie/Robin is that we practically know nothing about her. She is just some girl Batman saved from a mugging and apparently she admired that so much she decided to become his new sidekick. That’s it.

Does she have a family? How would her parents feel about her taking up an illegal vigilante hobby that involves risking her life on a daily basis? And what kind of an @$$hole is Batman for not asking those questions himself? How irresponsible is it of him to take on a 13 year old girl as a sidekick at all? Even if she was a miserable orphan with nothing to lose that would be totally unacceptable. If Batman took my child under his wing just like that, no questions asked, I would be freaking pi§§ed! (Not that I could do much about it – he is Batman, after all. Would you pick a fight with him?)

On the other hand one can argue that we should be grateful that we get spared yet another run-off-the-mill origin story with her. We’ve seen those before and they’re all essentially the same anyway. I get it. Nevertheless, this leaves her a very flat, weird character.

That all being said, I absolutely love both the comic book and the movie(s).

Cheers

No her parents were dope smoking hippies....and protesters who appeared not to care where she was...

Yes, you hear them talking. They're apparently part of the "criminals come before innocent people, it's society's fault" group.

All the Robins were teenagers. Batman was always irresponsible by enabling young kids to risk their lives on a daily basis.

If you'll recall from the comic, Carrie's parents didn't exactly dote on her. At one point during dinner, one of them says to the other "Say, didn't we have a kid?"
