I can't take James Franco seriously as a villian

I mean...who would?

I count six shots.
I count two guns!

He was GREAT in Spring Breakers. He could be seen as a villain in that film

I would say Guiici Mane was more of the villian

That's not 100% true. As the story was about four girls going on Spring Break, who then meet up with Alien the character Franco plays, as such, he can be seen via the public at large as the main villain to the girls (as in appearance, lifestyle etc.), even though Gucci Mane's character is the main rival in Franco's world (Mane was the teacher, and Franco the student), plus as we later find out that two of the girls are clearly psychopaths in the same league as Alien.

Furthermore, once the character Faith (Selena Gomez) leaves, it's essentially Alien's movie.

Those who can't take Franco seriously as a villain in this new movie, have clearly never checked his movie profile, because any guy who can make a 2010 short film called Herbert White, with Michael Shannon, which dealt with necrophilia and was subsequently banned because it was deemed too extreme (remember all the horror movies that play but this was deemed too extreme), can play a villain.

As well as, his new movie coming out soon which he directed called Child of God, which further deals with necrophilia, means somewhere in his mind, he can be creative enough to play a great villain depending on the quality of the script and director in charge plus in my opinion Franco is one the best actors of our generation, so this new role should be easy.

Oh, remember also when Spring Breakers cast list was first announced, everyone stated it was too bizarre to work, with Disney girls, an Oscar nominated actor plus Harmony Korine, and it worked perfectly with some audiences (now a cult classic judging by the number of people who wore costumes in response in particular to Alien for Halloween or masks like the girls) that they're even now campaigning for Franco in regards to an Oscar nomination, which I hope he gets.

Yes, this movie will also prove that Franco is the best thing in the movie, it seems that he is having a lot of fun with this role and I'm looking forward to Homefront, it should be great.

HAHAHA. Oscar nom for spring breakers. What a terrible excuse for a movie. It's pure trash.

Spring Breakers might have appeared terrible or trash to you but to others it was great or a masterpiece. That's the beauty of opinions, everyone has a different take.

Yes, it had a legit claim for Oscar nominations (like every other movie), especially for Franco as he gave an iconic performance in my opinion.

Look up Wikipedia as IMDb is never up to date now with award nominations or wins, but Spring Breakers has a variety of award nominations or wins in particular a high volume for Franco (with hopefully more to come), so keep laughing whilst Franco and Korine keep earning.

Razzies don't count...

Good thing he hasn't got any for Spring Breakers then!

^ This.

I thought the same thing at first but he's a great actor and can probably pull it off.

He did.

I know what you mean, but in the trailer, he set off a villain-y vibe to me. I guess we'll have to watch the movie and find out whether he plays the part well or not.

I had similar issues (mostly because there's no way he could be a believable physical threat to Statham) but the movie establishes very early that he isn't a big time bad guy, but someone who rather lets others do his dirty work for him and is pretty much in over his head.

I see wolves and wolves in sheep's clothing"

I found him to be fairly plausible, actually. That said, the line where he asks Winona Ryder if she is retarded made me imagine the two of them as some future horribly tragic version of Whippit & Taste from "Date Night."

JF did fine in this, no issues. As a poster above stated, he's not the uber-super villain in this hamming it up and throwing around corny lines like the trailer somewhat implies.

reply

He was a questionable choice. But considering that his character is supposed to be small time rather than some big meth dealer it is not as bad of casting as it may first appear.

I actually liked James Franco in the role of Gator. Knowing he couldn't outfight JS, he made Gator a crafty character. It worked really well for me. He adopted the kittens used to play "Luther" at the end of production. I love that!!

He is a great actor and I always look forward to his roles hero or villain. I think he should stretch his villainous muscle more after seeing this movie.

I think it worked because he was a pretty realistic character he wasn't over the top and they didn't try to make him match Statham by trying making him a badass which wouldn't be believable I hate when they do that they took the joker route he makes a good villain because he'll do whatever he has to to survive or not go to jail.

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.
