Should do a mini series on $uper League

They should do a mini series on $super League Vs the ARL war from 1995 to 98, Murdoch Vs Arutherson

The biggest problem with this is that quite a significant amount of the compromise dealings are confidential between News Limited and the ARL, neither of who wish the details to be released to the public. The other problem is that it simply isn't 'dramatic' enough - basically all the businessmen did was to throw seemingly endless amounts of money at it. It ended up a pissing contest between Murdoch and his people versus Packer, Politis and others and their people. All the super league war achieved was to create a bitterness in Rugby League which still exists to some extent, and to get some mergers to happen and Souths kicked out. In the end, only Packer was ever going to do well out of it - at the time he was a shareholder in both Channel 9 and Fox Sports......

Arutherson? LOL

Another problem is that nobody outside of NSW or Queensland gives two 5h1ts about it and wouldn't find it all that interesting.

That's like saying no one would care out of Victoria about an AFL story.

when you consider Perth and Adelaide were involved in Super League and then the Melborune Storm came in, the whole thing was about getting rid of Sydney teams and making it National. and how Pommyland got the Super League too

It also channged some rules, like the 10 metre rule and was the reason the video ref is now used. just like world series cricket changed some rules

They could do one on football, the world game.
How the people who ket football going in Aus all those years got shafted and how they replaced their clubs with English sounding clubs with wanky american franchise names.

Eat the Neocons.

Wow! You should have said earlier that it changed the 10 metre rule!! Now I'd definitely watch it.

And no, I don't think that there is a real life AFL story that would rate significantly well in Sydney. I'll stand corrected but I'd love to know how well the Ben Cousins or Jim Stynes docos rated in Sydney. And how are those Perth and Adelaide League teams going nowadays? Massive interest there?

The events surrounding Super League were huge for Rugby League. And with the Storm there its following in Melbourne is growing. But the events surrounding Super League are generally not entrenched in the consciousness of Melbourne sporting fans. It's just an event that we don't especially care about. And it does sound like a legal spat between a couple of rich bastards with some pollies and lawyers poking their beak in too.

No sympathetic characters, a plot possibily ingrained with lots of legalese, no sense of real importance to non-League/non-NSW & Qld sports fans = a ratings loser outside those states.

It would cetainly be intriguing viewing.

Have Adam Zwar play Phil Rothfield
Have Justin Smith as Phil Gould
