Are Eddie Murphy or Will Smith On deck to Appear?

These two guys HAVE to be guests eventually. It was always funny when either Eddie Murphy or Will Smith showed up.

lol. do you really think, that the makers of the "arsenio hall show 2013" can AFFORD will smith or eddie murphy? dude, so far they had chris tucker and ice cube. maybe flavor flav with stop by next.

reply

Its not about affording them. Eddie and Will are personal friends of Arsenio. Thats part of the reason why Snoop, Chris Tucker, and Ice Cube have stopped by so far.

reply

i am not a celeb expert, but can you confirm that they are still bonded? apart from that, i haven't seen eddie much in the media lately. that might just be a subjective impression, but after that terrible "one night only" special even less.

in general the producers might be trying to get some people that the audience wants to see. on the other hand it almost sounds like a bad omen, if you are "invited to the arsenio hall show", if you catch my drift. ;)

Eddie and Arsenio might not be joined at the hip as they were back int he day but they are still pretty good friends. I'm not too sure about Will Smith but I doubt anything heavy went down between them either.

Arsenio's break from showbiz was more from the higher ups disagreeing with the direction he was taking the old series than his relationships with his entertainment friends.

That's really stupid. All Arsenio did was go back to what made him famous to begin with which was his late night talk show. If Eddie used the same formula he would be relevant because his stand up comedy is legendary but it'll never happen and that's on him.

reply

When Arsenio's show first came out, Eddie was the biggest movie star and comedian in the world. Now, like you said, Arsenio has surpassed Eddie just by doing the same thing he did before. Eddie's known for not wanting to look back like his refusal to do anything for SNL. I think Eddie fancies himself a Renaissance man but Arsenio knows what he's good at and it looks like he'll stick to it this time.

reply

Imagine if Eddie Murphy decided to return to SNL. That would be HUGE. It's never been done before by any SNL alum and it may even help them out comedy wise. It'll never happen but if he wants to be relevant.... I'm not saying he needs to go to great lengths to be relevant but I mean look at Jerry Seinfeld and even Tim Allen; they went back to doing stand up even though they had achieved greater success in tv and movies. I don't know why Eddie thinks he's too good for that.

reply

I dont think Eddie would go so far as to return to SNL at all. When he was there it was under Dick Ebersol and Jean Doumanian and he feels no loyalty to Lorne Michaels at all, so thats pretty much out altogether.

'When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.'

reply

It was more of just an example since he seems to think he's too good for things that made him famous to begin with.

reply

Martin Short and Julia Louis Dreyfus were cast members when Michaels wasn't there but they still come back.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

reply

Thats different, they were already Second City alums in the first place. Martin was from the Canadian troupe and Julia began in Chicago's Second City group. Eddie really was a third choice(among two other comedians up for the role of SNL's new 'black guy' spot) that got lucky and had no real prior sketch comedy training. Robert Townsend and Charlie Barnett were both in the running before Eddie was actually cast. Eddie got the spot because of his persistance and he could read and follow stage direction better than Charlie Barnett whom they actually wanted close to the end.

'When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.'

reply

I don't see why just because they were in Second City that it's a given that they would return to SNL. Jim Belushi is a Second City alum has never returned even when he was briefly a movie star in the late 80s. So it's not about lack of loyalty to Lorne Michaels or Second City. It's about whether the individual performer would think it would be fun or good for their career. Apparently, Eddie Murphy thinks not.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

reply

"So it's not about lack of loyalty to Lorne Michaels or Second City."

In Eddie's case it is. He dosent feel much loyalty or that he owes Lorne Michaels. For the longest time his excuse to not return to reunions or host the show was because of the 'falling star' joke made by David Spade. I think Arsenio explained in an interview once that Eddie really just dosent want to associate with SNL any longer unless he had the desire to despite being invited to reunions multiple times.

In Jim's case, he just dosent feel that his participation made much of an impact and that his tenure on the show was more or less because of his name than actually being a memorable performer.

'When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.'

reply

That sounds like a lot of speculation on your part. Unless Eddie Murphy himself specifically said that he would return if Dick Ebersol was still running the show out of loyalty to him, I don't think it has anything to do with Michaels specifically. And with Belushi, you know that he feels that way for a fact?

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

reply

Theres books, interviews and articles that cover this. Hows Eddie's bit speculation if the proper research was done on the subject? Belushi always kind of felt his time was wasted on SNL, his brother John was encouraging him to be more of a dramatic actor, this is part of how he landed the role in Michael Mann's film Theif.

So, yeah.

'When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.'

reply

OK so can you direct me to where exactly Eddie Murphy and Jim Belushi said that they would not return to SNL for those specific reasons? As far as I know, Murphy has only spoken about SNL in Inside the Actor's Studio in which he did not speak on that subject. I did read "Live from New York" and Belushi didn't speak on that subject either.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

reply

You're on the internet. Do your own research just like I did. There are also books on Second City and actual biographies/interviews of these people you can seek out as well.

No more need to derail the thread any further.

'When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.'

reply

Didn't think so.

The fact is Eddie Murphy has never ever publicly blamed Lorne Michaels as the reason why he hasn't returned to SNL. Any reasons given by anyone else is speculation. I love Arsenio but he's not Eddie Murphy.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

reply

You can't pull that 'oh since he can't lay it all before me because I can't research it for myself because I'm a lazayass, it must be a lie' bullsh!t on me, facts is facts. If you think you know better go find out for yourself. I used Arsenio as an example, Theres been several biographies and interviews where Eddie expressed his reasons why he didnt go back to SNL. Its not that hard to look up. I never said he publicly blamed no loyalty to Lorne in the first place...so your Jedi tricks don't work here.

If you even really read Live From New York at all, much of that information is in there. So you're just gonna have to agree to disagree and stop derailing the goddamn thread.

'When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.'

reply

"I never said he publicly blamed no loyalty to Lorne in the first place."

Exactly. He never did. Murphy did not participate in "Live in New York". Any claim saying "I think Eddie feels..." or "Eddie told me over breakfast..." is speculation or hearsay. You brought up loyalty to Lorne Michaels not me nor he.

"You can't pull that 'oh since he can't lay it all before me because I can't research it for myself because I'm a lazayass, it must be a lie' bullsh!t on me"

The "I don't have to prove it even though I made the claim so you go ahead prove the claim that I made" BS doesn't work on me either.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

reply

If you really wanted to know what went down you'd have done the research for yourself just like I did in the first place instead of getting into a stupid sandbox shoving match, or of trying to coax someone into doing it for you, I mean if you're such a glutton for info and who said what you'd know this sh!t by now. You fail to acknowledge the fact that I've repeated there are several sources to get this information from. Don't get pissed at me because you either can't find it or refuse to research for yourself.

"Any claim saying "I think Eddie feels..." or "Eddie told me over breakfast..." is speculation or hearsay."

So by that rationale anyone who actually got that particular information from the source (Eddie himself) is basically a liar thereby extension you're saying Eddie's lying too...Stop posting in this thread immediately. You're done here. Go away. Any further responce you post will be ignored from this point on, as you've severely derailed the thread enough as it is.

"So by that rationale anyone who actually got that particular information from the source (Eddie himself) is basically a liar thereby extension you're saying Eddie's lying too."

You're an idiot. That's no lie. But I'm not believing the "internet tough guy" act. Sorry.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

reply

No need to apologize just go away, no one's trying to be "tough"(which is such a stupid thing for you to say anyhow).

I've asked you several times to STOP DERAILING THE THREAD. Just leave.

Seriously, if you cannot do the research yourself or refuse to believe anything presented then be the bigger person and agree to disagree instead of dragging this any further. Stooping low enough to calling me names isnt working in your favor either, and makes you look awfully petty, and damned immature.

"Stooping low enough to calling me names isnt working in your favor either, and makes you look awfully petty, and damned immature. "

This coming from someone who called me a "lazyass" and "bullsh-t" because I asked you to back up a claim that you made. I did not insult you or curse at you before that. Look at my posts before you said that. In every post, I asked for a shred of evidence for statements you made and you couldn't do it. So you called asking simple question a "Jedi mind trick". Talk about petty and immature.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

reply

Well, just leave then. Clearly theres nothing more for you to say here. go ahead and go. Dragging this on is making you look smaller by the responce. If you don't like what you read, then refrain from responding.

You've nothing more to contribute here.

You're really missing the irony here. And I'm not talking about the misspelling of "response". Maybe you were too lazy to look it up?

Is this your way of telling me you have a crush on me or something? I'm going to let you down easy. I have a girlfriend and I'm straight.

And correcting someone's spelling on the internet...you can't do better? Just leave me alone already.

nah, i just appreciate your hilariousness.

last time i saw eddie was at the "one night only" and it was the saddest thing ever. i am sure he died a million deaths internally that day. i don't actively follow his career recently, but it would not surprise me if he would completely disappear out of the public eye sooner or later, just to not have to get reminded of the disaster of a career that he had in the last years.

as for arsenio hall, well he is basically a nothing. despicable personality as well. yes, he turns up every couple of years with his crappy persona, but there is really no substance to him. he was kind of eddies sidekick for a while and even that role is basically out of his league. so, eddie being HIS guest to me looks like the ultimate defeat. the standup comedian that blew away the world with "raw" and then had the dream career of most likely every american comedian ever alive, not being successful at anything these days, being guest in the talkshow of a dude that basically lived off eddies handouts back in the days? he could just as well jump off the empire state building. that would end everything with more dignity.

Well, thanx.

Also, these days whats old is new again and we're all caught in that 20 year 'lets be nostalgic about sh!t we really dont need' phase. Arsenio is back, and other music artists from yesteryear are peddling new albums lately.

Also, Eddie Murphy has a new song out with Snoop Dogg thats getting abit of buzz, so yeah.

I do agree, that 'One Night Only' show was kinda sad.

Arsenio said in the first episode Eddie Murphy will appear.

Most things just need time...

reply

Yeah Eddie was funny, calm, and cool when he came on. Wish he would have taken off the glasses though. I can't stand when people where shades in doors. Was he trying to hide his wrinkles or something?
