Things that were never explained?

I feel like the first season is a separate show from the last two seasons. I know they brought in a new showrunner for the second season. I very much enjoyed the first season and the weird kind of Twin Peaks vibe it had going for it. I can't seem to recall if the following plot points were ever explained:

1. What happened to Roman and Olivia's ability to control minds? In the first season both were able to control other people's minds.

2. What happened to Olivia's eye drop addiction?

3. Why don't they have fangs? In the first season, Roman had fangs in the final scene. By the second season, they had unhinged jaws.

I feel like this show started out as something weird and interesting and just turned into a steaming pile of crap!

I feel like the show started out as a werewolves vs. vampires drama that couldn't have been any more stereotypical, and then turned into its own thing.

I did really like season 1 despite the premise not being original at all. But I thought the overall quality was good, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. Seasons 2 and 3, hmm. I liked them less. But I do respect that the show tried to break away from the tropiest of vampire/werewolf tropes. The visual representation (fangs) was probably part of that.

I feel like you didn't pay much attention to the first season.

It wasn't a vampires vs werewolves story at all...

It kind of was vampires vs werewolves. Well. actually it was about a vampire and werewolf vs one werewolf.

I thought the eye drops were to keep her from wanting to feed?

I think they were too. Which is weird that she stopped taking them.

Wasn't Pryce working on that nutrient when she was still taking those drops and maybe she didn't need them anymore once he finished the nutrient? I should rewatch to find out but maybe someone else's memory gets jogged by this. I guess the new crew forgot about the eye drops altogether.

The eyedrops were to help ease her cancer. Then Olivia's cancer went away, so she didn't need it anymore. Eventually it came back far more terminal for the drops to even work again.

She didn't have cancer in season 1 when she was using the eye drops.

All good points and I agree. My jaw dropped at the season 2 finally and I was speechless, as I loved the first season, but it's been in decline ever since.

I think new people came in and just dropped certain storylines and tried to take the series in a new direction. It's a pity because the first season was a good start and Brian McGreevey's novel on which it was based is quite good.

Maybe she got unhooked to the drops while in rehab for her season 1 injuries?

Anyway, season 2 revealed the eyedrops were just powdered milk, so it was just a psychosomatic thing anyway.

4. Why did Shelley look the way she did? Was she brought back to life by some type of experimentation by Pryce? Is that the caul on her right side that never fully left her face?

5. How did Spivak appear to Letha as angel Roman? Why Letha? Why are upir eggs more valuable than any other eggs?

6. So Roman and Peter were okay with the threesome? I mean, they pretty much went silent about it and never talked about it again

7. Why did the little girl in that Old Europe flashback story have a tail? Wtf? Was she upir? Was she werewolf? Why did she cut it? Was she Olivia?

8. Maybe I missed this, but how did the sheriff not realize that Christina was a werewolf? He popped out of nowhere but still had to have seen her turn back into a human after shelley broke her neck. Also wouldnt he have seen Shelley wasnt even there till the end? He would have caught so much of the fight and heard so much before Shelley even arrived.

4. Shelly was murdered by her mother because she did not have the mark but JR took her to price to try and bring back. It worked but came with physical scars because of the procedure he used (some of which was explained after he touched her cheek in ep1 and it lit up)

5. Spivak didn't appear to Letha as angel Roman. Olivia mind controlled Roman and Letha to sleep together and created a fake memory for Letha using an angel apparition as the cause of pregnancy and she blocked Romans memory completely. She wanted a umpire grandchild and she figured her best bet was Roman and Letha.

7. There are cases of children being born with vestigial tails as was the little girl in the memory. I believe she had thought Dimitri had run away because of her tail and was so upset she cut it off her self which in umpere culture, that is how a child makes the full transition from human to umpere but self inflicted death. That's why Olivia had to trick Roman into slicing his own arms so he would make the transistion.

8. Shelly is a big person and had her back to the Sheriff so I'm assuming he just couldn't get a good view and by the time Shelly dropped the wolf it had already turned back to human.

5. Spivak didn't appear to Leitha, he just controlled their minds to get them to mate because he had been following the Godefrey bloodline for a long time and they had the right genetic combination to breed his species. Nadia was the result of his influence and he insinuated he'd been nudging them along for generations and/or following them. So, his interest was specific to Nadia rather than umpir's in general.

This show had ALOT of potential, first season was so interesting but things went south fast. the only thing they did right was getting rid of that horrible accent Olivia had.

Roman got really under-powered after the first season. He was more bitey but also more useless.

I completely agree! I thought that myself like there had to be different writers for the other 2 seasons, I just finished the 3 seasons and so much is not explained like in the 1st season in the resturant you can see Shelly's thumb and it looks normal and the mom has a fancy accent not hear in the other 2 seasins, the baby can make people die in the 2nd season but not the 3rd, shelly can glow in the first, maybe 2nd, but not the 3rd, the mind thing Roman can do in the first he cant do in the rest, and what are the vials they take why isnt it explained how come the cops never investigate any of the deaths, and why in the 2nd season was Peter able to be grabbed out of the werewolf body like makes zero sense I feel like the right hand had no clue what the left hand was doing and they just made stuff up as they went along
