Madeleine Martin just...

...sucks. She sucked in Californication and she sucks in this. It mystifies me how she ever got a job acting.

I agree she is pretty bad

I went from liking Shelly in season 1 to hoping she was the first to go. Sadly, she survived. Horrible actress....horrible. I can't stand the baby talk most of all...

I agree, i mean everything i see her in she has that same monotone voice, and just sounds like shes stuck in a depressed emo phase.

Thats what i love about these high school girls, i get older they stay the same age.

She’s shy and speaks softly. When she was finally able to speak, she had no practice in speaking with others. As she gained more conversational experience, her speech gained nuance and inflection. The real monotony that I see here is the repetitive and shallow meanness that informs the posts in this thread. And let’s see: she has a mother who not only does not love her but in fact actually rejects her because of her abnormalities, but Shelly deserves to be mocked because her speaking voice sounds like she is stuck in a depressed emo state? What OTHER kind of state do you expect her to be in?! That is absolutely no sign of deficiency in Shelly. It’s the only state in which she could be, until she started finding people who loved her, other than her brother, real father and the speed-freak doctor. Clinical depression is a very serious medical condition. It is not a choice. And it is not a fit subject for mockery.

Tha babytalk, got on my nerves !

Thats exactly how she sounded on Californication, she pretty much played Shelly as if she was her character from Californication but with a deformity.

She was horrible in Californication and she ruined the character of Shelly

It's not just the nasal, whiny, mopey, baby voice (which is awfully irritating). She always sounds negative and unhappy.
As Becca in Californication I cringed during her scenes. She rarely spoke to Hank without ending up sounding negative. Even if she started off saying something positive, like "I love you dad" she would pivot into a mopey guilt trip criticism. There was always a "but". She could get depressed from an orgasm.

When Shelley got her voice back I thought Oh No, not again.
