the lipstick
We saw the lipstick being raised in it's container twice. Once in the beginning, and near the end of the movie. I know there has to be some symbolism there, but i'm not sure what it is. Any guesses?
shareThe lipstick was used to mark the bodies for butchering. It was used to mark the different "cuts"!
shareFirst time (56:01 in my copy) it's for marking the body of a dead person. It's an obvious choice for them, as it is non-toxic and especially made to adhere to human skin but easy to clean off afterwards.
The second time (01:18:36) it's for marking the body of a living person (the police secretary puts on lipstick as intended). The shots are very similar indeed. Some people might think of that every time they see lipstick being applied!
