Decent movie, but the ending... (spoilers)

I understand that the movie is called "We Are What We Are" and that the girls were seemingly fighting what they were the entire time. They hated the father for making them kill and eat people, sure. But why kill and eat him when there's a perfectly good doctor there? It was a completely gratuitous scene that demolished the characters the movie built up. That they'd continue eating his flesh with a bloodlust, after we assume they've grown up accustomed to eating human flesh their entire lives, was a little hard to believe. Hell, they gutted and cooked the woman in what looks like chili just the other day. Ham is the same flavor cooked or raw, and thicker pork is essentially the same too. It's not like cannibalism is new to anyone in that family, so why go crazy on eating the father? Kill the father and escape. But now, they're going to roam the country eating people.

The movie was a little tense at times, and it's kind of psychologically unsettling (I've seen much worse). Everything is foreshadowed in such a way that there are no surprises, save for that last scene. It's sheer nihilism, and while it's a nice twist for the sake of twisting, I can't say I really enjoyed it. The inclusion of a real illness was a nice touch, and the 18th century diary plot device was great; they should've continued with it, instead of dropping it halfway through the movie.

I can really see why this is only a 5.7/10. It's a slow-burner with an intriguing story, but it falls short of horror movie greatness by not fully delivering. Some of those scenes were nothing more than throwaway pieces.
