One of the first lines in this is "Would you look at that snow?"
Subtle reference to the absence of snow in Home Alone 4?
It's a killer puzzle box, designed to scare me to death.
In that case it's the only subtle thing about this movie. I would be VERY surprised if indeed it's deliberate.
