Who was the father talking about in his story?

When RJ goes home, his father tells him a story about a mormon guy who suppressed his feelings and got married to a woman. Who was his talking about? Just some random person we never met or something we did meet? Himself?

Yes, he was talking to RJ about himself as a young man and the feelings he had. Maybe trying to show him that he suppressed his true nature to follow the church.
