Why is this on History Channel?

I thought the History Channel was for non-fiction documentaries.

Then they started playing "Ancient Aliens," fiction masquerading as documentaries. And then "Vikings," historical fiction which isn't even presented in a documentary format.

Good question.
I wondered that myself and can't say I agree because back in the day such channels gave real informative and educational good shows.

They have sort of sold out. Just like discovery.

But I'm glad they made this show as I'm a fan.

reply

A money grab.

reply

Correct.
They did it for money...like every other show on television.
That's why companies invest in the production of television series, to generate a profit and get more of a return than their initial investment.

Are there any programmes on TV that aren't intended to generate some form of profit in one way or another?

reply

Sure, public television.

reply

The public television that relies on advertisement and/or donations in order to afford their overhead. I guess that's true.

If you aren't interested in making a profit, just ask for money.

reply

Beats any of their regularly-scheduled bullshit "history" programming.

reply

Probably because the History channel hasn't been exclusively historical documentaries in over a decade or so?
I may be spitballing, but that's my guess.

"Vikings" was never intended to be, nor advertised as anything resembling a documentary...so it seems odd to be surprised enough to start a post wondering why it isn't one. IMO, anyway.

reply

I came here to ask this. Now there's a full-scale Rus invasion of Scandinavia, which never happened.
