So all our Vikings friends had to do over these years was ask for their help and a Frankish army would appear the following day. In exchange of...? It Doesn't matter!

As is the return of a character, one of the elder generation without a thread of gray in his hair. But it doesn't matter. I like him, and was hoping he would be back.

Oh, I don't mind seeing Rollo come back (too bad he didn't bring Princess Gisla along); it's just the way he character is re-introduced that extends beyond belief. The whole Frankish army appears practically over night - a classic deus ex machina device.

In the interview with Michael Hirst about this episode, he hinted that bringing the army was just a cover, Rollo has other motives that we will find out in the 2nd half of the season. [spoiler]He wants to know if Bjorn is really his son.[/spoiler]

What?!? There was never any indication he had ever slept with Lagertha who by all indications despised him even though he was obviously obsessed with her.

Nor can he exactly submit Bjorn's DNA to a paternity test.

This is getting dumb.

What I remember from the pilot episode it seemed like they had something going in the past and had just broken it off. Here is the interview:

Lagertha made him think that Bjorn may be his son in season 3.

Ivar is a cunning genius. Bringing in the Huns to win his war isn't exactly what you'd expect from such a canny guy.

OK, they had a personnel shortage. But you can always raise an army, without giving away the farm.

I don't mind the historical re-arrangments/embellishments, but this defies character development. However,
this series is not usually sloppy, so perhaps an explanation will be forthcoming.
