A fairly well-balanced documentary

I just watched the movie and I have to say, I don't understand all of the hate. I thought the movie was well-balanced and some of the issues brought up (such as the effect of illegal immigrants on our school and health systems) I know for a fact are true. I work in medicine and my daughter went to a school that was ESL (English as a Second Language).

The film does not demonize the Hispanic culture and there are actually a couple of stories told by Hispanics that are heart breaking. In addition, most people in the film do not say that this is a Hispanic problem...it is a problem with illegal immigration. Yes, most of the film focuses on Hispanics, but that is because they are the largest group currently sneaking into this country. Overall, I think the film had a fair, well-balanced perspective and should be checked out instead of instantly being criticized for being anti-immigration propaganda.

Of course, all documentaries are going to have a certain level of bias. It is just part of the nature of the medium. However, I think the film maker did a reasonable job of discussing the issues without leaning too far in one direction or the other.

Check it out and form your own opinion. But, definitely worth watching.

I agree. After reading some of the posts here, I thought it would be an inept and hysterical screed, but it was nothing like that. Mauricio's story was very moving and some of the other immigrants portrayed were very sympathetic indeed.

I liked the film very much as it discusses important issues in a sane and balanced manner. Too bad it isn't shown more widely - it certainly deserves to be.
