Stunning

While it's tempting to see this mainly as a political film, I saw the backdrop of poverty and savagery as just that - a backdrop.

The visual power of the film put beauty into this eerie land of horror and humour, which Arbor plodded through on his horse and cart.

The real story was the development of the little lad, who went from a 2-dimensional chav-scum teacher's nightmare to a deeper more complex figure as he struggled through a strange but familiar world of adults.

"Chav-scum" ? Really?

""Chav-scum" ? Really?"

Yup, he went from being a little feral bastard towards some sort of painful maturity and maybe even redemption. That was kind of the point of the film.

"Chav-scum", "feral" - keep reading the Daily Mail. I'm sure that's working out well for you, and thanks for proving my point. Gracefully bows out.

Do you post 'Gracefully bows out' in every thread you take part in?

Shall we lock em all up in work camps as well to show them whats good for them?
NOW I'm done. Ta ta.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is a Mail-ite. Life's a bit trickier than that, outside the bubble. All the best...

Chav's abit of a teen shell suit wearer innit. He was just a wee pikey type. Anyway it was brilliant, not showing enough so im glad I caught it, will be high on my top films of the year, london whatsis name should get off your high horse a bit ;)

...via him being responsible for killing a horse and his best friend? I'd rather scum like Arbor didn't exist in the first place.

Best film ever made? The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

reply

Completely agree with you. The film actually surpassed my expectations and brilliant performances. Highly recommended watching. Also, yeh the little un was a chav and he definitely developed maturity as the film unraveled.

reply

I react to your description 'chav-scum'. Chav he may have been by circumstances that are political but scum he was not ... yet. I find it interesting that you remove the politics from the poverty and consequent savagery and then label Arbor a piece of scum.

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.

reply

"Chav he may have been by circumstances that are political but scum he was not" he most certainly was and he proved that quite efficiently.

Eh, what should be political about this movie? I am not that familiar with UK politics so I guess I missed something, I saw movie about life of white trash which you can find in almost every country (with whiteys). In this context every novie would be political unless it's happy fairy tale from beginning to end (which are not even fairy tales, so I guess even some cartoon fairy tales could be considered as political).
