Realistic?

Would relatively junior officers get away with speaking to high ranking officers in the way they do on this show? I very much doubt it

Depends. He raises some interesting points in his rage. You must decide if you go by the law or moral codes. Since Arnott is always lawful, he has always shown bad moral judgement with women. But that is hardly of relevance for the high ranking officer, since it is his private life. But he could get a warning i guess for acting offensive. ;)

Yeah they do have valid points (cos it's not just Arnott I'm talking about) but in most professions (I'm a nurse of 28 years) there is just no way this would be allowed . Your feet wouldn't touch the floor!

But to catch bent coppers...GOD GIVE ME STRENGTH !! << thick hides they develop in this job. Insults, lies & hate they get from every cop they interview. So it is specific in this job that emotions boil up with time i guess. If you are a combat surgeon or a garbage truck driver, you have different attitudes.

I can see that happening. What I have a problem with is the physical assaults not being reported or if it is, no disciplinary action taken.
Nigel hitting Kate with his cane on work premises and Lindsey assaulting Kate on a work assignment outside of work premises.
Kate just keeps rolling with the punches, she's definitely the strongest of the bunch.

I suppose in the police tensions can get high. They are used to being spoken to in a bad manor by criminals. It's also a highly stressful job. And I suppose it's so hard to find AC detectives that once you find one you take them as they come. Better to be honest and vocal than dishonest and not,

I've noticed all the spitting, toilet swirled and physical assault don't result in any disciplinary action.
