How can the BBC possibly expect to build an audience with such a short run? See also "Sherlock". Quality stuff is over in a flash whereas dross like "Eastenders" seems destined to run forever.

Exactly. Quality takes time and effort to produce, and isn't always universally liked.

The BBC takes in over 2 billion pounds a year from their medieval licence racket and it seems very little of it appears on the screen.
