How does one aim those chain guns on the plane?

In the beginning... when that huge war plane shot down at everyone with the multiple chain guns. How would they pinpoint people on the ground? Are we to believe the 2 pilots could aim those things?

They didn't need to aim, they just wanted to create chaos. Real AC-130 gunships can shoot very accurately at ground targets.
