Goodbye "Go On" -- NBC has axed it...

Just saw this. So sad... :-/

Matthew Perry must be having a melt down this is his third post Friends TV show to flop after a season.

Not even getting Courteney Cox to guest star could save it.

reply

Courtney probably hurt its chances. Maybe TBS will revive GoON and dump the cougars

reply

If they canceled Go On and then renew The New Normal...

reply

The New Normal sank to a 0.7 in the demo, there's no justice in bringing it back, even as a mid season show. NBC will have to renew Community or just rely on Parks and Rec as the only returning comedy, since everything else got axed too.

reply

This sucks, figured Go On would get renewed since NBC axed a ton of other shows. Community is basically coming back, and only Parks and Rec for sure. Shocked NBC would just start from scratch with all of their comedies. I figured Go On was safe after yesterday's cancelation news.

reply

Wonder should TBS pick this up,like they did with Cougar Town, perhaps???

reply

Never know, they do need another half hour show to couple with that, or at least it makes sense.

reply

It's Universal TV, so it wouldn't go to TBS, since there's no syndication deal. Part of the Cougar Town deal was that it was going to be syndicated there anyway, so they just decided to start early with a first run version.

I just read an article that said both Go On AND New Normal got axed!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I thought it was doing well!?

So upsetting!!! My son and I love this show and looked forward to watching it every week. We are really going to miss it. I can't believe they cancelled all their sitcoms except for P & R (well, I guess they haven't announced community and new normal). We watch all of the except for Parks & Rec. And we know alot of other people who watch them all except P&R so I find it strange that it was the only one saved. I guess my friends and I are out of the loop there. I probably won't be watching NBC at all next season unless Community and The New Normal are saved. I'll watch them.

Parks and Recreation is their best comedy. Why aren't you watching it? It's also the highest rated, by a good margin outside of The Office which was in its final season.

Parks has been just ok for two years now. Go On was NBC's best comedy this past season.

Not really unexpected but still saddening they axed it. Can't believe they've dragged the often dismal Community on for so long but gave this no shot. Power of Sony I guess.

reply

You're high if you think Go On was in any way, shape, or form better than almost any season of Parks and Recreation. Season 1 of Parks and Recreation was probably worse than Go On, but it had an enormous amount of potential.

Parks was pretty great most of this season, so I will definitely disagree with you there.

You just said that season one of Go On is better than season one of Parks. So why do you think it is so shocking that people think it is better than Parks? If you really see no potential in Go On you were not paying attention. Seems to me like you just like to hop on the band wagon of a show once it has already gained popularity. When did you first tune in? Season 3? Also, the first season of Parks is brilliant. Just because season two is a little bit better does not make season 1 bad. Therefore, based on your point that Parks season one is worse than Go On season one, Go On should have been renewed.

reply

I just saw this, so you may never see this. I actually worked on the DVD for Parks and Recreation season 1 and fell in love with the show then (I'm pretty much the furthest thing from a bandwagon viewer). I couldn't put my finger on what it was about it that I loved, at the time, but by the end of watching the first season, it had become my favorite show. Season 2 and 3 were my favorite shows by a wide margin over everything else I was watching at the time.

I said in my post that the reason that I can confidently make the comparison that I did was that I saw huge potential in Parks. Go back and watch season 1, and compare it to the other seasons. Everyone was finding their character in season 1, and it's a lot different than what it became (while still very enjoyable to me). I finally did figure out why I loved season 1 of Parks and it was because of the ensemble. I loved every character.

As for Go On, it had the potential to be a great show, I honestly mean that. Instead, they tinkered and tinkered and tinkered until it was just a caricature filled comedy that was jumping for jokes rather than getting us to invest in the characters (which is what was happening in the early episodes). The show was very close to being right on the money around episode 6 (all of the first 6 episodes were really good). At some point in the season, they destroyed the original concept, and the show lost most of the viewers it had. By the end of the season, they were going back to the early ideas, but it was too late.

I just don't think the show could have worked beyond season 1, based on what they did, because they cleaned up the mess of the characters (what made it work so well to begin with). So, to me, the difference between Parks season 1 and Go On season 1 was potential. Parks had through the roof potential (eventually totally realized). By the end of season 1, Go On was never really going to be better than what it was by the end of the season. They left it nowhere to go. I would have watched every episode of it, had it been renewed, but that doesn't mean it would have improved to the level it needed to to compete with something like Parks in quality.

FIRST OFF, The Office was WAAAAAAYYYYY OVER-RATED. The only good guy on there was Dwight- he was a loyal, albiet dummy- worker. The "guy you root for", the straight guy who got married at the end, was a complete JERK! Nothing's funny about humiliating someone, especially a co-worker. Anyway, NBC, in general, has a bad habit of canceling great shows a year or 2 into their rotation. So often that 5 years ago i started a list!! To make a long story short- Go On was the only show besides The Voice I watch on that friggin network. Even that is getting old. PS: Any fan of Scrubs can attest to the rediculous challenges SCRUBS had with stayin on the air…..why the *beep* would any network get rid of that great show???

Im so sad that its not coming back. Go On was Matt's funniest show since Friends. It gave me giggle fits every ep. I fail to see any humor in Community and Parks & Rec. Another show that I didn't find funny was that show with Alec Baldwin(can't remember whats its called).I think its because Im not american and those 3 shows have that quirky US humor.

reply

It did well in the fall, but it had a massive ratings crash in the Spring. :(

I will be honest I never really watched Friends when it was on tv for new episodes and I do like Friends now but I really liked Go On and I think NBC needs to go learn how to figure out on how to cancel a show or they should of at least gave it another season. I do watch Parenthood and that is the only show on NBC that I have been watching that has not been canceled yet. But like someone said maybe TBS will pick up Go On or another station will hopefully.

That's unfortunate. I liked what I saw from Go On. I've never seen an episode of the New Normal, but considering it's a Ryan Murphy product, I already know what it's about. Go On >>> New Normal. Lol @ NBC if they renew that show.

reply

They renewed your show, and neither of Go On and The New Normal. You must be ecstatic.

reply

I am. Though I'm not like the Community fanboys that think their show is SO superior to other sitcoms. I liked Go On. Too bad, it's not continuing because the ensemble was likeable.

reply

The only reason I think they renewed Community is because they needed something to pair up with Parks. It's a little early to know for sure, but it doesn't look like NBC is heading in any kind of direction that resembles the Community/Parks style. I really think everyone should be expecting those two shows to be in the 8pm hour on Fridays.

Didn't Sony basically save Community?

reply

A long time ago, pre-syndication (Sony are syndication whores and will basically give their shows away for free as long as they can get to syndication). That's not in play now. Interestingly, NBC released their schedule and a show called Welcome to the Family is in the slot following Parks on Thursday. I predict that show won't make it to November, which would bring Community right behind Parks.

NBC is a joke, what else is new.

reply

ugh, so sad! And bizarre that NBC renewed Community in the meantime, just based on how they've treated it in the past but also in light of what an unholy mess that show became after the very first season (which I really did love).

It is NBC, though, so...

- Do you have a significant other?
- Um, not in the widely understood definition of that term.

reply

That says it all... It is NBC though, so... This was a good show but was taken off (by NBC) for a while to show some other crap and then of course the ratings go down because no one is sure when and what day it will come back. NBC could bollix a nocturnal emission.

Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.

It feels stupid to me that I got to know these people and then it just gets axed, at least they axed the new normal too :)

reply

I don't get it! This show was actually good. I may have to go back to my old rule of not watching a show until you know it's a strong swimmer nobody will mess with lol. im so bummed.
