Billy Campbell as Lincoln.

I thought that Billy Campbell as Abraham Lincoln was exquisite. He brought the right amount of angst and love of the republic to him. While also showing how truly tired and aged Lincoln had become in just 4 years. When he kneels down and speaks to the ex slave you get a feel for the deep love of freedom that he felt in his soul. And the pressure that he lived with. "Kneel only before the almighty". This was a wonderful depiction of not just the facts but the overall situation of all involved.

That was a wonderful moment (perhaps the best in the movie) and it made me wish that the Day-Lewis movie had included it. Campbell did a fine job, but it was still solidly below the preparation and intensity that Day-Lewis brought to the role. Damn right that he got Best Actor for it.

I remember him on crime story back in the 80s.

Really? I thought from the get-go he was awfully miscast. But it didn't detract from the story - I just had to keep reminding myself that a story can be told without the actors necessarily fitting the roles.

Beautiful Billy as creepy ugly Abe Lincoln ,totally miscast.
