Urs' Excursion (spoilers)

Urs, the man stung by the mutant bug, freaks out when Luca is attacked by the mutant falcon and runs away from the group. He is feverish and probably delirious, not simply afraid. But twice when the group arrives at the research station, a character says that Urs has "run back to the valley to get help." How on earth, even if they are trying to cast things in the best light, could they interpret his defection as an intentional return to civilization to retrieve help?

Am I missing something?
