It's like THE THING in that there's a small group of people who are isolated and fighting for their lives in an arctic environment. You're right that the stories are not at all the same, but the environment, imagery, and general tone of the film invite a few comparisons.
There are a lot of these kinds of movies, but if this and THE THING are the only "arctic" horror movies someone has seen, then, for that person, the comparison is warranted, no matter how tenuous the connection.
I appreciated the mountain/glacier locations and the film-makers are probably great Thing fans, but there is such a contrast in quality between the films that you just can't really compare them. The Thing is in a different league than this.🐭
