The Secret River v Banished?
What's the difference between the two?

While similar in the beginning (and premise), they're very different stories.
Banished (season 1) is about the early settlers, about their daily struggle with limited supplies, in their stratified caste system (of solders, convicts, and women) and their codes of conduct. You barely see any aboriginals (they concentrate on the colony itself, mostly a couple individuals), and only a few months (weeks?) have passed.
The Secret River is more of a long term search for somewhere to belong, of having a place to call home, and how far you're willing to take it (and it spans decades, albeit most the events are ~5 to 8 years after they arrive). The story of the native settlers is crucial to the conclusion, and you do see more of them (but they aren't the main characters).
They're both pretty good.
